South Texas Blood & Tissue Center (STBTC) is a not-for-profit, independent, community blood center specializing in quality blood, blood components, tissue services, and specialized testing. Our service area consists of more than 100 hospitals and clinics in 43 counties in the south Texas area. STBTC has four in-bank donor locations in San Antonio, one in Victoria, and a facility in New Braunfels. Explore this web site to learn more about our programs and services. Because patients are in constant need of blood, blood components, and/or tissue, donors are essential. It’s about life.

STBTC’s mission is to collect and process an adequate volume of blood and blood components for South Texas patients. To make blood collection more convenient for our donors, STBTC operates fixed-site locations and conducts numerous mobile blood drives.

The Marrow Donor Program of Central and South Texas reached its goal of 100,000 registrant mark. The National Marrow Donor Program’s mission is to extend and improve life through innovative stem cell therapies.

STBTC’s tissue program enables the collection of bone, skin, heart valves, veins, ligaments and tendons. These life-enhancing tissues can be used for vascular transplants, bypass surgery, renal dialysis, hip replacements and skin grafts.

The Bereavement Education and Support Taskforce (BEST) provides grief support to tissue donor families through community education and training of the professionals who comfort them.

The Education Department provides a diversity of community education for medical professionals and the general public. Tours of the headquarters in San Antonio are available.

The establishment of the Texas Cord Blood Bank holds great promise for bringing new life-saving therapies to many patients. This program will implement the scientifically complex process of collecting, processing and storing cord blood donations.

The Center has experienced an increased volume of testing for national and international organizations.

The support of foundations, corporations, and individuals enables STBTC to enhance blood screening and transfusion methodologies and to pursue new treatments and cures for a range of life-threatening diseases. There are many ways to support the programs and services provided by the Center.
