This special drive, held in honor of Dr. Charles R. Drew and sponsored by Omega Psi Phi, Psi Alpha Chapter, is held at one of the largest Martin Luther King, Jr. marches in the country. Meet us at Pittman Sullivan Park (the march's end point) for an opportunity to donate blood and/or sign up for the national bone marrow registry through the GenCure Marrow Donor Program.
Located in the heart of San Antonio, Texas, the MLK, Jr. March draws more than 200,000 adults and children to celebrate human equality in our community. Join us in honoring the extraordinary efforts of Dr. Drew, an African-American surgeon who organized the first large-scale blood bank in the U.S., by volunteering to assist patients in need in your community.

HOW STBTC & GENCURE are JUMPING IN TO HELP
Giving blood means bridging the space between two lives. One is healthy, vibrant and generous. The other is experiencing illness, trauma and uncertainty. Making a blood donation is one of the most intimate and priceless gifts one can give and The South Texas Blood & Tissue Center (STBTC) is honored to be the bridge between those two lives.
GenCure, a partner and authorized donor center of the Be The Match Program (National Marrow Donor Registry), coordinates donor registration, marrow donation and search activities providing donor suitability, management, collection and processing of stem cells for patients hoping for a cure. Its marrow donor program hosts marrow registration drives and special events across South Texas to find donors for patients and promote awareness about the urgent need for more potential donors.
WHAT DOES SIGNING UP FOR THE REGISTRY ENTAIL?
Signing up for the Be The Match Registry simply means you are making yourself available to patients who might one day need you.
If you are between the ages of 18 to 44, please register. Registering only takes about 5 minutes and consists of paperwork and a cheek swab. The swabs collect DNA samples to determine your HLA typing which is used to match with a patient's HLA type.
