Blood Donors to receive commemorative Texas Strong T-Shirts

September 21, 2018

The South Texas Blood & Tissue Center (STBTC) a subsidiary of nonprofit BioBridge Global (BBG), will be thanking blood and platelet donors with commemorative T-shirts through Sept. 30  The Center had a 20 percent reduction in collections during the summer months because schools were not in session and frequent donors were on vacation.

Last year, events including Hurricane Harvey and the tragedy of Southerland Springs affected the community blood supply, South Texas donors rallied to help area patients and hospitals who needed blood transfusions.

“Our volunteer donors have always answered the call to help, and last year was no different. Today is no different,” said Dr. Samantha Gomez Ngamsuntikul, STBTC associate medical director. “We wanted a donor thank-you gift that would recognize and thank our donors for their resiliency and commitment to always helping patients and neighbors in need.”

Donors with types O-negative or O-positive blood are highly encouraged to donate  While all blood types are needed, staff will consult with donors to ensure they make a donation that is most needed for area patients and hospitals.

The Center serves a 44-county area of South Texas and hopes the thank-you gifts will further motivate volunteer donors. Those donating lifesaving blood and platelets should set aside one to two hours of their time, depending on donation type.

To best accommodate donors, the center operates seven donor rooms throughout San Antonio, New Braunfels and Victoria. For more information and to schedule a donation, visit or call 210-731-5590.
