South Texas Blood & Tissue Center Extends Donor Room Hours
In response to the critical need for blood throughout south and southeast Texas, the South Texas Blood & Tissue Center has extended hours at all its San Antonio-area donor rooms.
All San Antonio and New Braunfels donor rooms will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., effective Monday, Aug. 28. The Victoria donor room will remain closed Monday.
In addition, STBTC has mobile blood drives scheduled this week in San Antonio, as well as Boerne, Fredericksburg, New Braunfels and Seguin. Donors can find a drive and make an appointment by visiting SouthTexasBlood.org/Harvey or by calling 210-731-5590.
Current blood supplies remain at less than one day’s demand, so the need for donors is especially critical.
Hurricane Harvey has forced the closure of blood centers in the Texas coastal bend, so the South Texas Blood & Tissue Center and other blood centers are working to provide those regions with critically needed blood and blood products.
The need for blood donations will remain high during the recovery process in the coming months, so donors are asked to remember to give as often as possible.
Local hospitals are dealing with an influx of patients from areas hit hardest by the storm, and the region was dealing with summer-related shortages even before the arrival of Harvey on Friday.
