STBTC Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month

October 3, 2012

SAN ANTONIO - As we enter into October, we continue to celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month and once again wish to reach out to Hispanics and others to be potential blood donors. The South Texas Blood and Tissue Center has a longstanding tradition of actively encouraging the Hispanic community to give the gift of life.

Considering the large Hispanic community STBTC serves, they are in a unique life-saving situation because more than 50 percent carry O type blood, which is the most frequently requested by hospitals. However, less than six percent of eligible Hispanics donate. In the short amount of time it takes to donate, a donor can help to save up to three lives.

Visit a mobile blood drive or a fixed site in your area to help local hospital patients.
