Your free movie tickets for saving lives awaits
To thank blood and platelet donors this holiday season the South Texas Blood & Tissue Center (STBTC) a subsidiary of nonprofit BioBridge Global (BBG) will give all donors two movie tickets to the Alamo Drafthouse. Blood and platelet donations decline dramatically during the holiday season as high school and college students, as well as frequent donors, are on vacation.
Donations during the holidays greatly help in emergencies and ongoing use for cancer patients, new mothers and premature babies to name a few. Cancer patients need platelets to recover from treatment, while trauma victims and surgery patients need platelets to stop their bleeding.
Donors with type O-negative and O-positive blood are highly encouraged to donate. While all blood types are needed, staff will consult with donors to ensure they make a donation that is most needed for area patients and hospitals.
To best accommodate donors, the Blood Center operates seven donor rooms throughout San Antonio, New Braunfels and Victoria. For more information and to schedule a donation, visit SouthTexasBlood.org or call 210-731-5590
The Blood Center serves a 44-county area of South Texas and hopes the thank-you gifts will further motivate volunteer donors. Those donating lifesaving blood and platelets should set aside one to two hours of their time, depending on donation type.
Anyone wishing to donate blood must present identification. Donors under the age of 16 must have a signed parental consent form and weigh at least 120 pounds. Anyone over the age of 17 may donate and must be in general good health and weigh at least 110 pounds. All donors are encouraged to eat well and adequately hydrate before and after donation. Refreshments and snacks are provided to donors. In addition, all donor receive a wellness check. Learn more about blood donation at SouthTexasBlood.org.
